Have Issues with Share? See here!

Hello All,

We understand there are issues with Share and are working to resolve them. If you have an issue, please provide the following info:

1) Which method you are using for share (plugin, api, etc)
2) Specific problem that is occurring with detailed reproduction steps
3) A URL where our engineers can test and confirm the problem from #2
4) What browser and OS you are using

Please do not post "me too" type posts, each issue is usually a separate root cause and so we need these details to make sure we have resolved all edge cases.

Thanks!

-Jeremy

I am using:
<script src="http://platform.linkedin.com/in.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type=IN/Share></script>

When clicked, pop-up window opens. PROCESSING is seen in the title bar and no content loads in the window.

You may test here: http://www.munichreamerica.com/2011/industry.shtml

@Mark: I don't see any LinkedIn share buttons on that page.

@Tommy: Can you please provide me a specific URL I can test with?

Hi Jeremy,

Can you take a look on:
http://www.lennguyen.net/zjs/linkedin/linkedin.html

I have added og:image meta tag but share button does not show the thumbnail.
Does it take time for crawler to get og:image infomation?

Thanks

Hi,

I added js share button, it works fine however the counter is not incremented.

It increments only to 1 when i click the share button, and then returns back zero after refreshing.

Hi Jeremy,

I have similar problem during share. no matter what i do my thumbnail image is not coming up. below are the details.

1. Im using API based share
2. Try this link (http://www.linkedin.com/shareArticle?mini=true&url=http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2FuvUfHO&title=AddThis.com+robot+tech.support%40clearspring.com++AddThis+-+The+%231+Bookmarking+%26amp%3B+Sharing+Service&ro=false&summary=AddThis+is+a+free+way+to+boost+traffic+back+to+your+site+by+making+it+easier+for+visitors+to+share+your+content.&source=)

3. It happens on all browsers.

At first i thought this i a problem with the the image width and height which is causing the linked-in not to display the thumbnail image. so updated the image width and height but still the problem persists.

Your suggestion are very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Jeremy,

We have the same problem as described the post above with the missing thumbnail image (submitted-image-url) on the linkedin page. Only we are using the api rest call "/v1/people/~/shares".

Any suggestion are appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Jeremy,

I have added a test page in my domain to validate the case. following is the url im using to share article

http://www.linkedin.com/shareArticle?mini=true&url=http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2FsUu8qR&title=Test&ro=false&summary=&source=

the test page has only two meta tags and nothing else, as listed below

<meta content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" http-equiv="Content-Type">
<meta name="description" content="this%20is%20a%20sample%20text">
<link rel="image_src" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VAClaHSmWBA/TsEY00NgbVI/AAAAAAAABSg/R5cfm512ocU/s400/couponlogo_en_US.jpg">

and the share doesn't display image. here, interestingly, if i use the same meta tags on my blog its working fine. is this anything to do with my domain?

here, it displays the description fine. but not the image. Any clues on whats causing the issue?

Thank you,
Bala.

Hi Jeremy,

It looks like you're having a image-proxy/caching problem

Images of older share-api messages disappear over time in:
http://www.linkedin.com/?trk=hb-0-h-logo#typeFilter=ALL&nusSort=Time

But these images appear to be visible in:
http://www.linkedin.com/?trk=hb-0-h-logo#typeFilter=SHARE&nusSort=Time

Hopefully this issue will be fixed soon

Thank you.

I was able to fix the issue in my case by adding the same image under body section of html. otherwise it was an empty body and the html has only meta tags. after this change the thumbnail image is getting displayed during share.

Hi jeremy,

sadly, i am having the same problem again (the counter is not counting and stays at zero)

here is one of the links i am trying with:
http://www.yahki.com/wasseemadel/stories/20111115/Funny-Animals

so, do you know the reason please?
Thanks.

Hi jeremy,

one more thing is that the url i pass in the script is a short url , e.g. data-url= http://yhk.li/t2ppf

is that a problem?

i am saying that because i tried:
http://www.linkedin.com/cws/share-count?url=http://www.yahki.com/doaa/stories/20111116/Stories-for-Kids--2
it gave count 2

while when i passed the short url
http://www.linkedin.com/cws/share-count?url=http://yhk.li/93j3m
it gave count 0

so any clue please?

Hey All,

I am trying to share some information from my website into linked in. Things work fine till we share datas into the linkedin. This is how I am trying to share data from my website : " <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/shareArticle?mini=true&url=CONTENT-URL&title=CONTENT-TITLE&summary=DEATILS-OPTIONAL&source=YOURWEBSITE-NAME">Share Me</a> " [html]&#10;&#10;The URL that I want to share is basically : [php] " http://kol.indusnettechnologies.com:81/gapzy/index.php?p=suggest&amp;sid=3&amp;oth=ln " [php].&#10;My problem is that whenever a user clicks on the link from LinkedIn, I need the user to get back to the same URL that I wanted to share. And LinkedIn takes the user to the same page but without retaining the values that we pass over the URL which is the most important point as per my requirement. If at all any encryption of the values in the URL takes place, how can I get back the original values that I sent as the redirecting link of the post that I wanted to shared i.e, [code] " sid=3 and oth=ln " [code] devoid of any encryption.

What would be the appropriate linkedin link to share an article on a mobile? i.e., we would use touch.linkedin.com/.... instead of http://www.linkedin.com/shareArticle?mini=true&url=myurl&title=mytitle.

Hi Jeremy,

I'm having an issue with share & have not seen the question answered here....

Details:
1) plugin
2) I try to add the HTML code for a horizontal button into my google site and receive an error message that some tags are not permitted and are subsequently removed from the system, making the button unusable.
3) https://sites.google.com/site/bellosabrina/ (let me know if you need me to add someone as a collaborator)
4) Firefox. Mac OS Lion

What advice can you provide to either solve this problem or as a workaround?
Thanks.

problem with Linked Share feature in Mobile android webview

problem with Linked Share feature

I have placed below code in Mobile portal and unable to share the link through linkedin where i can sharing from desktop properly.

Hi Jeremy.

1) I am using share API
2)
Precondition:
prepare request like described in linkedIn shaer API documentation:
{
"visibility":
{
"code":"anyone"
},
"comment":"Asd",
"content":
{
"submitted-url":"http://google.com",
"title":"googloo",
"submitted-image-url":"http://pikci.ru/images/img_srchttpwwwcomputerrivercomimagessamsung-chat-335-qwer.jpg"
}
}

which corresponds to the format from share API documentation.

Expect: successfully post the update.
In fact, this JSON here will work like a charm. The update will be shared with working links and images.
The problem is: IF i will try to put in <submitted-url></submitted-url> a link that contains a "=" (equal sign), it will not share the post. It will just not. As a response i will get my previous update, and that's all.I tried to do it from different projects, and everywhere i ecnountered the same behaviour.
If i make from = to %3D, latter linkedin will tansfrom % in %25, and we will have %253D, which will fail as a link later on.

3) can't really tell the URL, because of the project....
4) i am using the application written on iOS, testing both on 4.0 and 5.0

I will greatly appreciate any advice/idea.

Jeremy,
I have two errors
1) I get an error when I try to share some post, they are posted weeks ago.
Tree examples:

http://www.elescaner.com/2011/11/25/que-es-el-high-frecuency-trading/

2) In my new post, linkedin doesn't take my thumbnails, there is an example:
http://www.elescaner.com/2012/01/10/como-hacer-crecer-la-economia/

The method is this
<script data-djssrc="http://platform.linkedin.com/in.js" type="text/djs"></script>
<script type="IN/Share" data-url="http://www.elescaner.com/2012/01/10/como-hacer-crecer-la-economia/" data-counter="right"></script>

I have 2 issues with Share.

1. URL parameter is ignored. Tested on all
We are currently using old ShareArticle api. -
href="http://www.linkedin.com/shareArticle?mini=true&url=http%3A%2F%2Fm.manpower.com%2Fcand_mobile%2Fjobsearch%2FJobDetail%3FjobId%3D1604637&title=Swedish+Technical+Support+-+Excellent+Opportunity
I've tried with the new Share plug in and get same results.
<script src="http://platform.linkedin.com/in.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="IN/Share" data-url="https://m.manpower.com/cand_mobile/jobsearch/JobDetail?jobId=1604637"></script>

the title gets posted correctly, but when i click on the link, i get a main search page, instead of job details page.

2. ShareArticle link does not work on Android or Blackberry mobile browsers. We get an error message "We are sorry. Something unexpected happened..."
We've tested with Blackberry torch RIM and HTC Thunderbolt. iphone works, but again the url parameters are ignored.

Thanks,
Bella

- AddThis

2) Specific problem that is occurring with detailed reproduction steps

- User clicks Share with LinkedIn button (any of the ones underneath the quotes)
- New window opens

REST API through cURL: /people/~/shares

This is the posting we made to LinkedIn: http://pastebin.com/y6zW1kZL

on LinkedIn in shares our submitted URL appeared as http://idi.to/aAs
last character is lowercased comparing to what we posted, which results in incorrect URL.

We need this issue to be fixed ASAP as the share API is intensively used by our clients

Hi Jeremy,

Not sure if you are still following this forum and responding to the posts, but let me explain my issue here so in case you get a chance please look into this, this seems some strange issue with Linked in functionality.

My URL is given below...
https://solutionxchange.com/_Layouts/Veportal/ChallengeDescPre.aspx?ID=148

Open the link and click on LinkedIn button on top right side, this will open the LinkedIn article posting page in new window, the problem here is that it is picking some different image than on the page, this functionality is basically to share the same Challenge details(including image) as appear on the webpage.

Facebook and twitter share functionality is also implemented and both are working fine but LinkedIn ShareArticle page picks some image other than it is on the webpage, however the image it picks does not exists anymore, it was some older image used earlier, it seems some caching issue at LinkedIn end as I have cleared all the cache at my end.

Here I am using the ShareArticle functionality as
http://www.linkedin.com/shareArticle?url=HttpUtility.UrlEncode(SolXURL)&mini=true&title=HttpUtility.UrlEncode(Title) &summary=HttpUtility.UrlEncode(Summary)&source=" + HttpUtility.UrlEncode(Source);

Please suggest some workaround for the same.

Thanks
Amit

Hello,
I have a problem with share button:
1) Which method you are using for share (plugin, api, etc)
javascript:
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://platform.linkedin.com/in.js"></script><script type="in/share" ></script>

2) Specific problem that is occurring with detailed reproduction steps
When clicking on the share button , the url and title of the are OK , but for the description text it seems to choose a random area of the page to display. For example on some pages it takes the text just after the <h1> tag and on other pages (which have the similar architecture) it takes some text after a <h2> tag. So the question is : how does it choose the sample text to display? Is there any recommandation to help it to find the right one?
3) A URL where our engineers can test and confirm the problem from #2
pages where it is OK :
http://www.mu-e.com/company-products-and-history---mu-electronics-2.html
http://www.mu-e.com/design-center-100.html
pages wher it fails:
http://www.mu-e.com/partners-of-mu-electronics-8.html (i suspect also a cache problem because the proposed text has is not published anymore)
http://www.mu-e.com/contact-us---mu-electronics-7.html
http://www.mu-e.com/customers-of-mu-electronics-9.html
4) What browser and OS you are using
tested on chrome, firefox under XP/Linux, and Safari, IE8 under XP

Thanks

The developer support team doesn't answer any questions, I think this is very unproffesional.
If this problems continue I will drop the linkedin button of my website.

@Scott, the http://www.linkedin.com/cws/share-count... endpoint isn't valid (and hasn't been for over a year now). Please don't use it as it's not supported, documented, or maintained and we make no promises that it will work at all or be there in the future. For all intents and purposes, that URL has been deprecated.

Your pages are showing the correct count according to our records and our new count endpoint.

This link will not share correctly:

<<http://www.fscus.org/news/index.php?article=773 >>
Using Internet Exlporer 8

Pasted the link into the attach URL screen from the home page and will not pull the correct thumbnails or article title from the website link.
