Follow Company plugin not showing up

Not sure what I may be doing wrong but I copy / pasted the generated code into my footer but I cannot get it to show up. I have tried this in some local static pages and using different browsers but I still cannot get this button to show up.

Code:
<script src="//platform.linkedin.com/in.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="IN/FollowCompany" data-id="Spider Design, Inc." data-counter="none"></script>

Site:
http://spiderdesignonline.com

I have viewed the source as well and I do not see any mangling of the type tags

View Source:
<script src="//platform.linkedin.com/in.js" type="text/javascript"></script><script type="IN/FollowCompany" data-id="LinkedIn" data-counter="none"></script>

I have other social buttons in the same footer and those work fine. The site is built on CodeIgniter if it matters.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Jassen,

We had an operations issue which I think was causing this behavior. That's now fixed, so can you let me know if this is still an issue for you?

Even I am facing the same problem yet. The company name is Wizbuds and site is www.wizbuds.com.
I have put the following code where I want the button --
<script src="//platform.linkedin.com/in.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="IN/FollowCompany" data-id="2626281" data-counter="right"></script>

Please let me know the resolution.

Nishant, looks like the Follow button is rendering just fine when visiting your site. It shows up at the bottom right next to the Twitter follow button

Have we ever found a resolution to this?

I have a client that wants this on their site, and am having the same issues... direct copy/paste, and button does not show up.

If you have an example page we can see it on, we can help debug. The button is working fine on our end, so it's probably an integration issue.

Happy to help if you can point us to a URL.

I wanted to add FOLLOW COMPANY BUTTON to my website www.babulfilms.in hosted by Yahoo Small business
I got the following message -
"Sorry, your code can't include JavaScript. Please edit your code to remove script blocks (e.g., sections that begin with <script>) and try again."
what am i to do now?

Unfortunately, all of the plugins require JavaScript to work.

I'm not familiar with Yahoo! Small Business hosting, but there might be an option to enable JavaScript.

OK... looks like the issue resolved itself as soon as I uploaded it to the remote server.

It seems that there is an issue with your buttons working under the file:// protocol which does not happen, for example, with FaceBook or Twitter buttons.

In addition, you buttons appear to sit about 2 or 3 pixels to the right from where everyone else's sit... not a big deal, but noticeable.

Example page is currently at techBuildersgroup.com/GO/GO.html and will remain there for a short time while I am working on it for the client.

Hi,
I am trying to add the button to my site (www.businessledit.co.uk) hosted in Office 365. I used the insert HTML to add the button on the home page immediately below the text on the left-hand side of the page. the code is there and if I hover over it I see the balloon text that I am already following the company, but the button is invisible.

Please let me know how I can get round this problem.

Steve

If this isn't working, you'll need to check the configurations on your CMS to make sure it allows JavaScript and isn't removing or modifying the code you entered.

Looking at the last couple URLs that are having an issue, the markup is missing completely from the code, so I'd start with the CMS.

@Steve, are you using SharePoint Designer? I've worked with SharePoint in the past (not on Office 365), but javascript support is extremely limited if you're using the rich text module. I ultimately ended up using Telerik's editor to get the functionality needed. You mileage may vary.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm using the built-in website builder provided with Office 365 rather than SharePoint Designer. This allows you to insert HTML code. Previously, I used the "insert PayPal button" to add Google Analytics and that is working successfully (but clunky as you have to do it on every page and can't do it in the header), but I got an error message (along the lines of "not recognised PayPal code") when I tried this with your code so Microsoft may have made a change that stopped this working. If you hover over the region where the code is inserted I do get a balloon text to the effect that I am already following the company so I think the code is working, it just doesn't show the button. Should there be some code to specify the image size?

We still have the same problem 4 months after this was launched - for us it only shows up in chrome but nothing in FF or IE. Our example page is tjtaylor dot net backslash test9

Turns out that if you have "Enable Protected Mode" checked in IE, the button will not appear even though the code is there in the source. I used jQuery to come up with a workaround, but it would be great if the widget could work even with that IE setting enabled.

I too am having a problem getting this follow button to work on our website. I can copy the LI provided source into my HTML editor, but when I save it and go back to check the edit, nothing appears after the "FollowCompany" statement, ie the data-counter and data-id are missing...! Nothing appears whatsoever when the site is published.

Anyone any ideas on this please. Am I up against some restriction in my CMS or what?

I have found that on my website www.colon-software.nl, the follow button also does not show. Checking with firebug, the JS code DOES however insert spans and an iframe (containing another Iframe) into my page. The outer span is indicated to be 1 pixel wide by firebug. Changing browsers does not solve this... Any suggestions?

TIA, Bart van Hofwegen

I noticed that the iframe on mine is also 1px x 1px.
I also get the following network error"

GET http://www.linkedin.com/cws/followcompany?companyIdentifier=1337&counterPosition=none&original_referer=http%3A%2F%2Fdev.localhost%2F&isFramed=true&lang=en_US&_ts=1349993388052.61 403 (Forbidden)

I can refresh the page, and it will load 1 out of 3 times.

The following link looks like a similar bug, they mention they are using the share button, but it looks like they are using companyFollow instead.

I found out what caused the "follow company" button not showing in my case. I am already following my own company, so when I was logged in to LinkedIn the icon did not show because there is no need for it. The logged in state is of course persisted in a cooky. Logging out of LinkedIn made the button appear. This might not be the case for everyone, but it might save you the time it took me to find out what was going on.

Same issue here. I did a little test and found that it will show up in Safari and IE9 but not Chrome or FireFox. I have a big client that wants this button on their site and it's not showing up in all browsers, only Safari and IE9. Even if I create a one page layout with straight HTML.

Here is my test: http://www.kompanee.com/linkedintest/

I just checked the last 2 guys sites above this post and the same thing. Shows in Safari and IE9 but not Chrome or FF.

Can we get a fix soon? Has to just be a JavaScript issue. My client wants this really bad and fast!

The button is working for me on all browsers. It sounds like the button is getting throttled for you guys. We throttle it to prevent external surges in site traffic from impacting www.linkedin.com.

I'll look into where our throttling limits/load are at and see if we can get some more boxes put into rotation if needed. This could have just been the result of a high traffic site adding the button without our knowledge, so our system triggered the safeguards and started throttling.

Thanks for reporting this.

We are experiencing the same issue for one of my client sites. The button works across all browsers but only appears about 50% of the time - the rest of the time permission appears to be blocked by the plugin at source. Eugene, I expect this is due to the throttling that you mention? If more boxes could be added to resolve this issue, it would be most appreciated. My client would like to keep the button on their website but feels it is a poor user experience if the actionable buttons only appear intermittently.

Follow Company widget not displaying - I can only see a 1 pixel blue line, no doubt the left hand side of the text bubble displaying the total for those following. When I right click the single pixel line and open the frame in a new tab everything is visible. It's working it's just not displaying correctly.

I tried copying the script to our server but this did nothing.
CSS issue maybe..? I tried changing the class name for the div container to share but this did not help.

It definitely seems as though the frame isn't displaying correctly.

Hope this information provides a helpful clue on how to fix this bug because it's been 5 months now and nobody seems closer to solving the problem.

It would appear I'm not alone in experiencing the intermittent "follow" button on a page. Especially if you have more than 1 follow button on a page, it's almost guaranteed to fail every time.

Hello, I am experiencing this issue as well.

When logged in to LinkedIn with a browser (Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer), the button simply does not show up. However, if I am not logged into LinkedIn on a browser, Chrome and IE show the button, while Firefox still does not.

FireBug is logging this error:
Error: no XD object is available from this page

There is no way it can be a "throttle" issue, as the site is in development and only accessible to me. There is clearly some issue with the embed code indicated by so many responses in this thread. Can LinkedIn please confirm that they are working on a solution?

The Follow Button isn't working on our company website. Below is the code I received.

<script src="//platform.linkedin.com/in.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

<script type="IN/FollowCompany" data-id="86045" data-counter="none"></script>

However, when I paste the code, it converts to the following and the button doesn’t appear:

<script src="//platform.linkedin.com/in.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

<script type="IN/FollowCompany"></script>

I contacted our website provider for support and they were unable to resolve. I see I'm not alone. I hope you're working on a solution. We've already been waiting a few months.

I have a slight variation:

Cut/paste code is:
<script src="//platform.linkedin.com/in.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="IN/FollowCompany" data-id="2603581" data-counter="none"></script>

After adding it to our website --hosted by Wild Apricot-- and saving, nothing shows up. When I go back to edit mode and inspect the code, I find it has been changed (apparently during the "save" operation) to:

<script type="IN/FollowCompany" data-id="2603581">
</script>

I'm not a coder... any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

I checked and the plugin seems to work fine in all the browsers.

For those who are facing the issue, please make sure that data-id= is included in the script else the plugin will not be visible. If you are seeing the script is correct, can you please tell me what error do you see in the JavaScript console when you try to render the plugin.

Shikha, thanks for your response. I have included all available information in my earlier post, on 12/19, and can offer nothing more than that. You're welcome to visit the web page in question: www.ACTrust.us/Support. The code in question is located directly below Twitter follow button (also java script) on that page. All of these buttons / links are embedded in a table for formatting purposes, but that doesn't have any deleterious effects on the others. As you can see, there is no visible evidence of the LI script at all.

I will also reach out to Wild Apricot to see if this may be a problem specific to their platform.

Wild Apricot's Support Dept. responded with the following:

The code provided by Linkedin needs a small modification to work with Wild Apricot. Try inserting the following as HTML on your page:

<script src="http://platform.linkedin.com/in.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="IN/FollowCompany" data-id="2603581" data-counter="none"></script>

Adding that http: did the trick. It works!
