How to get public network updates

Hi,

I'm trying to get the network updates for a user that is not in the same network as the authenticated user.

I know the updates have been marked as public, both at the specific update level and via the "Select who can see your activity feed" preference.

All I'm getting back is the "Member does not share his/her feed info" error message. Is the expected for public network updates retrieved with this api call:

/v1/people/id='.$id.'/network/updates

Thanks.

Greetings Evan:
I try an url like this:
http://api.linkedin.com/v1/people/id=xxxxxxx/network/updates?scope=self

and I also get the "does not share" message but I don't have a user out of network with it open. Can you please show the profile (LinkedIn page is fine) you are using so we can check the call as well.
Thanks
Steve

Sure, it's a brand new account that I created just to confirm the issue I've been having. It's:

Thanks.

Hey Evan:
Yes I confirm the same message. Then again when I look at Mr. McTester's (I joke) NUS there is nothing in it or I can't see it. Perhaps you could log in as him and make a bunch of NUS updates.

Hi Steven,

There are public updates in there, though I don't see them on my public profile page. is there a way to get them to appear on my public page?

I've just checked on this page http://www.linkedin.com/profile/public-profile-settings?goback=%2Enas_*1_*1_*1, but it seems that there isn't a way to add NUS to the public page from there.

I'm really hoping this is a bug - otherwise I don't understand the difference between the activity stream settings of "My Network" and "Everyone"

The latest integration we have planned will not work unless public updates for a specific user can be pulled by the API when used by a logged in user who has authorized our app, so please tell me there is a way to make this work. :)

Thanks for the help with this.

Hey Evan:
Right now it looks like you can only pull NUS events from a 1st degree connection of the current authed user. I have updated the doc to reflect this. I have also put a question in to the engineers to see if what we are seeing is the expected behavior. I will update this thread once I hear back.
Sorry for the confusion,
Steve

OK, please let me know as soon as you have word from the engineers. As I said, we'll have to change our program considerably if we don't have access to public updates.

Thanks Steven.

Hey Ewan:
Just wanted to let you know it is definitely a bug. The engineering team is adding it to their que of things to be fixed and prioritizing appropriately.
Thanks
Steve

Thanks for the update Steven. I wonder if you could convey an approximate time frame during which issues like these are addressed. Is it 3 months? 1 week? A ballpark estimate would be very helpful in terms of our current campaign.

Thanks.

I'm afraid that we can't give a general time frame for fixes or features, as a LinkedIn policy. The team is actively addressing it, but we can't give you a timeline for when it will be fixed.
