Plugins - Back button breaks in IE.

Hello,

We are using the Member Profile Plugin in our environment and I am facing the following issue, when the Back button is clicked on a page that contains the plugin, the Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage error shows. It seems that in the iframe (that the plugin returns) there is a redirect that is being registered in the history. This is occurring only in IE. How can this be fixed? Is there a way around it?

Please help.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Astghik,

I've filed a bug on the issue, but I don't have any update to share yet.

Hi Jeremy. Still no news? I am surprised no one else has reported this issue before (as far as I searched). Should I anticipate for the issue to get addressed sometime soon? I appreciate the efforts! Astghik

Hi I am having a similar issue. When users try to use the Back Button the linkedin image is replaced with a strange iframe looking control. If I press Back 2 times it works. The back button works fine on the first try in Chrome but doesn't work in IE9 / Windows 7 and IE8 /Windows XP. Please update me on when and how this is fixed. Thanks.

Same issue here. Any page with a linkedin iframe plugin causes a "Cannot Display Webpage" to appear in IE history, and when you hit back, you go back to this entry, but the page itself does not change, except you get the standard "Cannot Display Webpage" in place of the iframe contents. This is most easily seen on a page that has profiles, such as this one http://www.marshallmcadam.com.au/our-team.html. Clicking back will progressively show the error on each iframe.

Where is the bug filed - is this internal? My guess is linkedin do a weird redirect and this causes the problem.

Has anyone discovered a workaround?

Could this be a race condition? The script type="IN/FollowCompany" is an invalid mimetype, that ultimately gets replaced with the content by the js pulled in prior to this. Could it be that the script isn't yet loaded, and IE errors on the mimetype, then the script completes loading and puts in the iframe, but the error remains in history?

It doesn't seem likely upon reflection, as the back-button keeps each iframe intact with the error displayed inside the iframe. It must be something in the iframe contents causing the problem.

I have no clue Paul Murphy. Seeing how the guy who filed the bug is no longer working at linkedIn, he appears to be at Tumblr, I'm guessing this bug is not a priority at the moment. For our site we couldn't wait for it to be fixed so we dropped the linkedIn button functionality and built our own custom html with links to profiles, etc.. If you want to pursue the bug further you might look into debugging it with Fiddler.

Good Luck,
Rory H.

Hello all,

I have worked around this by not using the linkedin script at all, and instead coding the iframe it creates directly in my code. This has the beneficial side effect of being much faster (particularly for member profiles), but also has the negative consequence that if linkedin change their backend, this part of the site will break. So this is a trade-off between not using it at all, using it in the linkedin preferred way and have it permanently broken, or using it this way with the potential for it to break in the future.

This approach seems to be the better way. If a linkedin dev comes by, perhaps you could warn if you are going to change the backend before fixing the script.

Is there a fix to this bug yet?

It only happens in IE.

Same problem here. Could someone from the LinkedIn team respond to these questions? Will this ever be fixed?

Looking for a fix to this as well - working on a social media directory for my business and wanted to use these widgets for our company pages but the error in IE makes the page look amateurish and is a deal breaker for using these.

Hello Paul Murphy.
Could you write code example here? Especially interesting how is generated "src" for iframe (MemberProfile)?

This issue can be worked around by directly placing the inner iframe on the page. A more detailed explaination here:

I am also getting this issue in 'LinkedIn Intrested In' block. I am using the below scripts for displaying this block which has been distorted in IE while clicking back button. Please help how i can fix this issue for IE browser?

<script src="//platform.linkedin.com/in.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="IN/JYMBII" data-companyid="xxxx" data-format="inline"></script>
